Training & Services

At Sulis Truffle Hunter, we offer more than tools, we offer practical, grounded training and specialist services to help you succeed with truffles. Whether you’re starting with a young dog, managing an orchard, or exploring your land’s truffle potential, our services are designed to guide you with real-world knowledge and support.

Truffle Harvesting

If you have truffles that need harvesting, we’re here to help. With years of hands-on experience, we pride ourselves on efficiency, physical fitness, and the utmost care for both your land and your truffles. Truffle hunting can be physically demanding and often takes place in difficult terrain, that’s why it pays to work with professionals.

We bring a focused, results-driven approach that ensures your truffles are harvested safely, your land is respected, and you get the best possible return for your crop.

Truffle Surveys

Whether you have a truffle orchard or woodland you suspect may be producing truffles, we can help you find out for sure.

Winnie is highly trained and incredibly precise, capable of finding truffles in vast or challenging areas.

In addition to searching your land, we assess your site and provide expert insight into its truffle-producing potential. We’ll advise you on what signs to look for, how to support existing truffle development, and steps you can take to improve the chances of future production.

Whether you’re looking to confirm your first truffle or maximise an established orchard, our surveys are a smart first step

Truffle Hunting Tools & Equipment

Our hand-forged truffle tools are made in Britain by a skilled local blacksmith, crafted specifically for the demands of UK truffle hunting. Each tool is individually forged, making every piece good doing it, combining practicality with craftsmanship.

We’ve proudly showcased our tools at festivals and have sent them to truffle hunters across the UK and around the world.

Truffle Dog Training

While our main focus is professional truffle hunting, we offer a limited number of truffle dog training opportunities each year. Our priority is sustainability. We believe it’s neither responsible nor realistic to train large numbers of dogs for truffle hunting, especially given the pressure this can place on wild truffle habitats in the UK.

Instead, we choose to work with individuals who are genuinely passionate about truffle hunting and committed to doing it ethically and sustainably, in line with the truffle hunter’s code. (Limited Availability)

“I have been fortunate a few weeks ago to join Dan and his lovely spaniel Winnie for truffle hunt shadowing with my spaniel Ross.
I highly recommend this experience as it massively helped me and my dog to gain more knowledge and much needed confidence. Dan is very friendly and knowledgeable person. It was amazing to see little Winnie working with her master and to see the incredible bond and understanding they share.
Thank you Dan for all your advice and Winnie for working so well and being incredibly cute.”

Personalised Support & Sustainable Training

Our training begins with a consultation online, where we get to know you and your dog, assess your current progress, and provide tailored advice to help you move forward. These sessions also include valuable information about truffles, their habitat, and how to develop your dog’s focus and reliability.

Shadowing & Field Mentoring

Once your dog reaches a certain level, you’ll have the opportunity to meet us in person at a real truffle site. Here, your dog can shadow us, learning from live indications in a natural environment, an experience that accelerates learning like nothing else.

This hands-on mentoring also addresses one of the biggest challenges in truffle dog training: knowing whether your dog isn’t finding truffles, or if there simply aren’t any there. By training in a confirmed truffle location, you gain clarity, confidence, and real-world skills both for you and your dog
